Pollinator Day for Schools

As part of Australian Pollinator Week 2023, the Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium will be hosting a series of interactive and hands on learning experiences for primary aged students in the beautiful Adelaide Botanic Garden on Friday 17 November 2023 from 10:00am to 2:00pm.

This day will be highly educational, engaging and thought-provoking day for your students.

Students will:

• Discover some of Australia's native bees, a look at pollination in your pantry and how to cross pollinate.
• Search for the birds that call the Gardens home and the spectacular species that rely on them for pollination.
• Explore different plants through the Adelaide Botanic Garden and students will engage in some citizen science by conducting a Pollinator Count.
• Inspect pollen and seeds under a microscope to learn about their unique shapes and how they travel.
• Experience the Bicentennial Conservatory in a completely new way with the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition!

Curriculum links:

• Year 3 Science: students classify and compare living and non-living things and different life cycles.
• Year 4 Science: students explain the roles of organisms in a habitat.
• Year 5 Science: students explain how the form and behaviour of living things enables survival in specific habitats.
• Year 6 Science: students explain how changes in physical conditions affect living things.
